Product Consultant — Finance, Risk & Data for Financial Institutions
TNA Consulting designs and publishes software for banks and financial institutions in Africa and Europe, used by dozens of institutions, mainly on core banking systems (Temenos T24, Sopra Amplitude) or credit-lease / microfinance / payment ERPs. Our products evolve constantly as regulation and the market move: we're looking for a functional product owner who knows banking from the inside, understands data, and can turn a regulatory or accounting need into a spec the tech team can implement.
A design role, not execution: your specifications become features used by several financial institutions. You'll get a cross-cutting view you can't find elsewhere — how different banks, under different regulators, handle the same accounting or regulatory problem — with direct access to clients and product decisions from week one.
Profile
- • 3+ years of experience in or with a financial institution (bank, financing company, microfinance, audit, consulting, software vendor or integrator).
- • Concrete, hands-on understanding of bank accounting (chart of accounts, accounting schemas, reconciliation between operations and the general ledger, closing, provisions).
- • Knowledge of the credit cycle (receivables classification, provisioning, guarantees, recovery); leasing or financing company experience is a real plus.
- • Real knowledge of at least one banking regulatory framework (BAM, BCEAO, BEAC/COBAC, BCC, IFRS 9, Basel) — you've produced or audited reports, not just read the texts.
- • SQL proficiency: able to write your own query with joins and aggregations to reconcile two datasets and isolate a gap.
- • Ability to write a clear, unambiguous specification (rules, formulas, edge cases, worked examples).
- • Client-facing ease: presenting, communicating, explaining, and holding an argued position in front of a CFO or an IT department.
- • A plus: user or configuration knowledge of a core banking system (Temenos T24, Sopra Amplitude, CBS), practice with a BI tool (Power BI, Metabase, Superset), data modeling notions (star schema, datamart), Python for data analysis (pandas), experience in microfinance, leasing or participative finance, technical English.
Responsibilities
- • Track regulatory developments (BAM circulars, BCEAO instructions, COBAC/BCC regulations) and translate them into product evolutions (new reports, calculation rules, controls).
- • Write functional specifications: business rules, formulas, data sources, edge cases, expected test sets.
- • Design consistency controls and anomaly-detection rules for the accounting control modules.
- • Specify business rules for the doubtful receivables / provisions / recovery / leasing solutions (declassification-reclassification criteria, provision and eligible guarantee calculations, recovery steps, credit and leasing financial calculations).
- • Define dashboards and steering analyses (indicators, granularity, readable for a CFO, a risk director or an auditor).
- • Arbitrate and prioritize with the product team: does a client request become a product standard, or stay a configuration?
- • Functionally test evolutions before delivery (correct figures, edge cases handled, report format compliance).
- • Be the go-to contact for clients' finance, risk, compliance and IT departments on how the solutions work.
- • Analyze reported anomalies: reproduce, isolate the cause (source data, configuration, accounting schema, software), explain it to the client with figures and argumentation.
- • Lead deployments: configuration, data migration, client acceptance testing, user training, go-live — with occasional travel in Africa.
- • Write functional documentation and user guides.
- • Analyze client data yourself in SQL to verify a calculation, reconcile two datasets or quantify a gap, and build analyses with our BI/datamart tools.
Recruitment process
- 1.A 30 to 45 minute conversation.
- 2.A practical case to complete (2 to 3 hours, AI tools allowed): starting from an anonymized accounting balance and transaction detail, identify and explain a discrepancy, write the explanation for the CFO, then specify the control that should have caught it and, if relevant, the correction to apply.
- 3.A 1-hour interview with the product team: case debrief, client role-play scenario.
- 4.Response and written offer within 48 hours.
- 5.Application: email your CV to [email protected] with a few lines about a financial data problem or a regulatory report you built or fixed that you're proud of.
